Nutrient Density VS. Calorie Density
Food supplies both nutrients and calories (energy). “Nutrient density” is a term that describes food’s beneficial (non-caloric) nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. These non-caloric nutrients are essential for your health. The key to optimizing your health and achieving your ideal body weight is to eat predominantly those NUTRIENT DENSE versus CALORIC DENSE foods.
If you need to lose weight, you will find that the more nutrient-dense food you consume, the more you will be satisfied with fewer calories. The best food to eat is from nature - primarily vegetables and fruits. In addition - the most colorful plant foods contain a vast assortment of protective compounds. If you want to dig a little deeper into understanding nutrient density, I recommend reading (and cooking!) anything by Chef AJ and/or Dr. Fuhrman. Two excellent resources!
